Today I’m sharing the script for a sketch I wrote called “Vows” for the Maude team Lover at UCB NY! Starring  Catherine Cohen, Eli James, Moujan, Leslie, Ken Beck, Matt Gehring, and Luke burns (who isn’t on Instagram but who did such a good job in the role of “ALT GROOMSMAN” that I decided to marry him). And directed by Ben Wiestmarschen, who gives great advice on how to ask people out.

I do really love how his one came out. But the primary reason I’m sharing it today is that it’s a little bit of a TEASER for the book. 

One chapter in “Unusual Things” is entirely about re-writing. And this sketch is one of the case studies I use to show a FIRST draft, break down the noting process, and then share the final rewrite. 

I won’t give away too much, but basically — the first draft of the sketch raised a whole bunch of questions about the world of the sketch, the characters’ points of view, and also involved a mid-sketch page-and-a-half-long monologue. Very grateful for the Lover writers’ room and our director Ben, who noted the sketch into a much clearer (and more fun) place!
