Scared D Train

(Shared on Instagram 3/21/25)

I truly couldn’t be more excited to share today’s edition of Friday Scripts: “Scared D Train,” by @mattklinman , directed and edited by @adamsacks . PLEASE check out the full sketch at the link in the bio.

Sometimes you encounter a sketch you love so much that it feels like it’s the exact shape and size of your own comedic sensibility. Like Wile E. Coyote running through a hole in a wall that happens to already be shaped like him. That’s how I felt the first time I saw this sketch, and it’s how I feel now.

It’s funny, incredibly charming, brilliantly edited, and I think about it constantly (as many of the New Yorkers among you surely will, too).

It’s also a great example of what’s called a “mapping game,” which is basically a sketch where the specifics of one context are applied to a totally different context, to showcase some broader comedic observation(s).

See if you can identify the mapping that’s happening in this sketch — and notice how many fun levels that mapping works on.

This is also a great example of a sketch that doesn’t really have a “voice of reason” character. Everyone has their own point of view within the unusual thing that’s happening, but no one’s pushing back on or resisting the core logic.

And as always — look at how quickly they leap into the fun. So many great specifics packed into just 3 pages!

Even more impressive — it was written for @sketchcramnyc for @ucbtny , meaning that it was pitched, written, shot, and edited in ONE single day!
